Jesus

Jesus

Is JESUS our only hope in this crazy and hurting world? For this to be true we need to have settled in our hearts who is Jesus to us... Are we able to give an answer for our hope?

CS Lewis said the following:

“I am trying here to prevent anyone saying the really foolish thing that people often say about Him: I’m ready to accept Jesus as a great moral teacher, but I don’t accept his claim to be God. That is the one thing we must not say. A man who was merely a man and said the sort of things Jesus said would not be a great moral teacher. He would either be a lunatic — on the level with the man who says he is a poached egg — or else he would be the Devil of Hell. You must make your choice. Either this man was, and is, the Son of God, or else a madman or something worse. You can shut him up for a fool, you can spit at him and kill him as a demon or you can fall at his feet and call him Lord and God, but let us not come with any patronizing nonsense about his being a great human teacher. He has not left that open to us. He did not intend to.”

Gateway Fellowship - a look back at our 1st year

Apostolic Trip - Jaffna

Passion & Purpose (Our Mission & Vision Statement)

Passion & Purpose (Our Mission & Vision Statement)

Our call to destiny

Passion

Proclaiming life over the city, nation and beyond – Luke 4:18

Purpose/Drive

To see men and women come into wholeness (sozo) and freedom that only Jesus Christ can provide.

To be a resource into/for the church of Sri Lanka (Word meets Action).

Having a vision beyond the local church. Understanding and living out the Apostolic call and Commission of Jesus Christ.

Values/Non Negotiables

Living out Grace – understanding it is not only the favour of God but also the manifestation of His power.

Word based.

Having a Culture of Honour.

Surrendered to the Holy Spirit and desiring the gifts (1 Cor 12) originating out of relationship with the Godhead.

Developing Identity and understanding Sonship and Authority.

Understanding Kingdom and its principles. Intentionally applying these truths knowing there is no separation between the sacred and the secular.

Developing honour based friendships with all.

Family focused, addressing key aspects of marriage, parenting, singles and community.

1 Cor 13 – Love underpins everything we do.

Leadership

To raise up empowered Elders and Deacons, from this house, in obedience to 1 Tim 3. Men and women journeying together in unity of heart and purpose. Understanding sacrifice and priority of the call. Walking in friendship before function.

Relationships

Intentionally walking with Ephesians 4 gifted men and women. We believe these friendships sow into the body and equips believers. Our relationships extend into the UAE, Bahrain, Cyprus and Sri Lanka.

Statement of faith

Statement of faith

We believe:

In the scriptures of the Old and New Testaments in their original writing as fully inspired of God, and accept them as the final authority for faith and life.

In one God eternally existing in three persons – Father, Son and Holy Spirit

That the Lord Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit, born of the virgin Mary, and is true God and true man!

That God created man in His image, that man sinned and thereby incurred the penalty of death, physical and spiritual; and that all human beings inherit a sinful nature, which issues in actual transgression involving personal guilt.

That the Lord Jesus Christ died for our sins, a substitutionary sacrifice according to the scriptures, and that all who believe and trust in Him are justified on the grounds of His shed blood.

In the bodily resurrection of the Lord Jesus ChristHis ascension into heaven, and His present life as our High Priest and Advocate.

In the personal return of the Lord Jesus Christ

In the personality of the Holy Spirit, His regenerating work and abiding presence in the true believer. That the Holy Spirit indwells all true believers and that He has been sent to be the Comforter and Empowerer of the Christian Church, to produce the fruit and the gifts of the Holy Spirit according to scripture.

That all who repent of their sin and receive the Lord Jesus Christ by faith are born again of the Holy Spirit and thereby become children of God.

That all Christians are called to a life of holiness, devotion to the Lord Jesus Christ and service to Him.

In the resurrection of both the just and the unjust, the eternal blessedness of the redeemed and the eternal banishment from God of those who have rejected the offer of salvation.

That the whole company of those who have accepted the Lord Jesus Christ as their Saviour, been redeemed by Him and regenerated by the Holy Spirit, form one true Church, and that the local church on earth should take its character from this concept. Therefore the new birth and personal confession of faith in Christ are essentials of Church membership.

In the priesthood of all believers

That the Lord Jesus Christ appointed two ordinances, baptism and the Lord's table, to be observed as acts of obedience and as a perpetual witness to the cardinal facts of the Christian faith; that baptism is the immersion of the believer in water as a confession of identification with Christ in burial and resurrection; and that the Lord's table is partaking of the bread and the cup as symbols of the Saviour's broken body and shed blood, in remembrance of His sacrificial death until His return.
That the ascended Christ has given various ministries or ministers to the Church in order to bring all believers to the place of Christian maturity in understanding the truth and the performance and function of the ministry.
